Settled But Unsettled

Victoria’s Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario’s complaint against her former school board was settled today.
It has been 6 years, 3 months, and 12 days since we filed the complaint on August 3, 2016.
In that time, Victoria graduated from The Gow School with honours on May 18, 2018, graduated from Mount Allison University on May 16, 2022, with a major in Psychology and a minor in Political Science, and is now at Mount Saint Vincent University to earn her Bachelor of Education degree in Elementary Education.
We will now be able to start to put the past 6 years of Victoria’s complaint in the rearview mirror. No more long days of putting together the documents required to move to the next step, followed by months of waiting to hear when a set of hearing days will start again.
The financial drain has been plugged.
Every penny we spent was worth a lifetime of success and happiness for Victoria.
She will graduate next May and start her career as a teacher. Her students will have an empathetic and caring teacher, and she will be able to put her experiences and education into ensuring that they have a good foundation as they start on their journey.
Janice will document the events of the past many years and offer her experiences, insights, and support to other parents starting down the long, sometimes lonely road of advocating for their children with Dyslexia and other learning disabilities.
This journey would not have been as successful as it was without the help of other parents who have been down the road ahead of and beside us. We will be forever in their debt.
Without her lawyer, Wade Poziomka, this success would not have been possible. His experience, expertise, and passion guided us along this path. His determined work ethic and thoughtful kindness toward our family cannot be understated. We are thankful to him, and his team for all they have done for us and our case the past few years.
